Just there at 6pm on a Sunday, could not believe how inconsiderate and rude the teenagers working there were. There were quite a few teens hanging out at the tables and the 3 staff were paying attention to them and their phones and completely ignoring the 3 of us. After literally 4 minutes of standing at the counter one finally put his phone down and asked of we were ready. I asked to sample a flavor and he put as little on the spoon as possible, handed it to me and walked away. I said I wanted to get that flavor, he finished his conversation with another staff member about wanting to get a job somewhere else and took our order. The ice cream is good, but the shop was filthy and the staff unbelievably rude. We will not be going there again.

  • Sydnee G.

Good ice cream and tasty waffle cones but wooooow do the young teenage employees have snobby attitudes. The second you walk in their face reads "I hate my job". If you don't want to deal with a bunch of people, don't work in a tourist city at an ice cream shop during the summer.. DUH.

    (1)
  • Terri B.

The ice cream was four stars, but the service was negative one and on cleanliness it was negative two, so that makes a total of one star. The bathroom was beyond filthy, I seriously considered calling the health department. The help was lackadaisical at best. The one kid wore a shirt that said Cocaine.

Just walking in the door of this place might give you diabetes. It has so much sugar flowing in the air that you really don't have to buy anything. You can just lick the air like some weird reptile. The good news is that there's a weird reptile place next door, which sells everything from surgically removed alligator jawbones to purses made out of seaweed. Most people will accept your weirdness for normalcy in Ocean Shores, so lick on! Expect cheaply hired high school-aged help to assist you; cut them a little slack. Any of you who have worked in the food industry as a teen like me can relate. The only thing on my mind when I was that age was what was going on AFTER work. So, just know that you're going to see a fair amount of "hormonely-influenced" service. I've purchased ice cream for my little reptiles at this place twice in a month and on both visits there was a mad scamper by staff to form a small "clique" inside the store to discuss the haps for that evening. On both occasions it was bowling which, in Ocean Shores, could be the most happening place after dark in town. Like most business establishments in Ocean Shores, save a few, this one could use a Ty Pennington makeover. Think old, low ceilings, and music attempting to be blared on crap speakers. My kids like the ice cream (I don't eat it) and I haven't had a bad experience at this place (yet), so I bumped them from 2 stars to 3. But if things don't change for the better by next summer my evaluation may change. Let's go bowling.

Best place to get salt water taffy in ocean shores

Waited in line for 15 minutes on a busy saturday and a workers friends and family came in and simply cut in front of everyone and they helped and served them in front of many patient customers. Unbelievably unprofessional. We won't be back.

  • Stephani R.

A bunch of kids working here so don't expect great service but the ice cream was pretty good. The waffle cones were stale and 2 cones cost us over $8 so it was a little over priced. I had the cookies and cream and my husband had the peanut butter moose tracks. Both were tasty

    (3)
  • Brynn L.

Ice cream was very good. I thought the milkshake price was a little expensive though. They also sell taffy and candies. This is a pretty hot spot for the tourists!

  • Shih Fa K.

I tried 3 different flavors: Pistachio, Mocha Almond, Coconut Almond. The Pistachio was pretty good with a good amount of almonds, and the light pistachio flavor is better than what you get with Lucerne. The Mocha Almond would have tasted better with fudge. And the Coconut Almond tastes more icy than creamy. Lines can be long here, and I heard that they make their own waffle cones. I did not try it because I was leaving town in a car right after I got the ice cream. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a little hard to figure out how much they charged. Instead of charging by the scoop, they charge by the weight, so you have to say what size ice cream and what flavors you want in it.

  • Mitzie C.

Just came from Murphy's though the icecream was taste. Very poor service and realizing I accidentally tip $10.00 immediately went back and the works pocketed the money and then denied it was in the tip jar. Owner's might want to watch this crew. Can't believe I told them also to stay open a little later because a tip cash cow was come from the convention next door.

  • Jenn L.

As soon as I walked into this place, it was pretty much chaos. It was labor day weekend so there were a ton of people here, all crowding the ice cream. The layout is confusing, as there is really no line and people just chat up any employee to get their order taken care. There were a ton of flavors, and I decided on the Caramel Praline Pecan. It was decent but not really that distinctive, which is pretty much how I'd describe the flavors my parents had as well (Huckleberry? and Walnut/Pecan?). It's worth noting that Murphy's had the WORST waffle cone I've EVER had. Seriously, I don't know how you can make them that soggy and flavorless. Blech.

  • Michael I.

Stopped in last Sunday at the last minute while leaving OS. They were technically closed, but the owner gladly offered to serve me. I ordered a milkshake, it was real good, not like fast food that's for sure. Though it was $8.00, it was a great treat for the drive home. I'd come here again for ice cream.

    (4)
  • Rachel M.

Whoever described the workers here as "joyless teens" was spot on. I'm not looking for a parade, but something other than a disinterested "I dunno" when asked a question is preferred. We liked the ice cream (Almond Joy was great, as was Rocky Road, and the Vanilla Bean was ok) and the fudge, and the taffy wasn't bad. We'd probably only go back for ice cream, though.

    (3)
  • Jaymee M.

Horrible service just as everyone else has said. Oh I didn't know I was interrupting you by trying to give you money. Get a grip, It's a super busy weekend in Ocean Shores. The ice cream was decent but nothing to write home about. We didn't buy any taffy or fudge so I can't speak to them.

    (2)
  • Carla C.

Wonderful icecream and selection of candies. Was here on the off season so they were busy cleaning so it took a littlev while to get some help. Definitely a must go to place when in town!

  • Jonathan S.

A HAIKU REVIEW Nice cream selection Almond Joy one was a joy Workers? Joyless teens

    (2)
  • Melissa R.

We brought the kids here for an ice cream. I had pralines & cream. It was pretty tasty. The homemade waffle cone was very good. My small children chose bubble gum & sour blue raspberry which tasted strange to me. Overall, this is a nice place to take kids for an ice cream.

    (3)
  • Olystacy B.

My family stopped in here for some ice cream cones. They had a decent selection of flavor and they let us sample a few so we could decide. The boys serving us were efficient enough, if not a bit on the teenage surly side. Cones were of decent size. We got 8 single scoop ice cream cones for 27.00. Not a great deal but not a total rip off for a touristy place. Good choices of fudge, candy, and salt water taffy.

    (3)
  • Shannon E.

Visited here last night, three teenage boys sitting on the floor behind the counter on their cell phones looked less then impressed that we were interrupting their evening. A lot of favors of salt water taffy. Icecream tasted freezer burnt didn't buy the candy, paid with cash and the kid who rang us up didn't know how to count back the money let alone how much change to give. Skip this place, if we get icecream again it will be at Peppermint patties down the street.

    (2)
  • Kimberly H.

Out of seafoam. Kids mopping in the middle of the day. Lots of salt water taffy to choose from.

    (2)
  • Deanna C.

Ice cream is decent, taffy is not made on site nor is the fudge. Customer service is awful! The boy behind the counter was rude and rushed us, there was no one behind us inline. I can't believe he still has a job! I would skip this place.

    (1)
  • Peggy R.

When we got here, the shop was closing, and the open sign was turned off. Although we were okay with taking our ice cream desires elsewhere, the girl behind the counter welcomed us with open arms. I tried the white licorice ice cream and fell in love. There was the slightest hint of licorice, but it was so creamy! The service was outstanding, and the sweet person behind the counter was totally receptive to our questions, and even laughed at our jokes. The ice cream was wonderful, but I most enjoyed the display of $4 sunglasses that was right in front of the counter. All in all the experience was gah-roovy and it's definitely a place to which we will return the next time we are at Ocean Shores

    (5)
  • Jennifer G.

If this place ever closes I will probably go a little crazy. Fudge. It is my weakness. They also have home-made ice cream and an intense assortment of saltwater taffy flavors. Screw your bikini body.

    (4)
  • Lance P.

Had some ice cream and salt water taffy. The ice cream was great but the saltwater taffy all tasted the same. There did not seem to be any difference between the watermelon taffy or chocolate. Ambiance was great, fun place for a date, snack, or some dessert.

    (3)
  • Mike W.

This place has the best ice cream in ocean shores! Very good quality! Very convenient and close to the hotels. What can I say, this is a great place for ice cream! Hands down!

    (5)
  • Erika C.

The ice cream was okay. It tastes like homemade watery/icy ice cream - maybe it was just the flavor I got (coconut almond joy) but hubby and son had moose tracks and chocolate fudge and enjoyed it.

  • Daniel V.

We stopped at Murphy's yesterday after a hot day at the beach and were extremely disappointed with their ice cream. With the long lines and all the 5-star reviews I expected luscious, creamy homemade ice cream. It was anything but. I got a double cone with Pistacio and Praline-Caramel. My wife did the Praline and the Cheesecake flavors. Their product comes off as having a very low cream content. It's weak and watery with big chunks of ice in it. That's what I expect in a store-brand, discount ice cream, not a "5-star" tourist trap. The best thing I had was the waffle cone. Crispy, fresh and heavy on vanilla. The best part of my wife's sundae? The caramel sauce. Sad. And it cost $14 bucks. Not kidding. Not to mention the young lady at the register who seemed bothered by the presence of customers. Steer clear. You would do better just grabbing a pint of Ben and Jerry's from the local IGA.

  • S C.

The ice cream was below average. Nice selection of candy which I didn't try.

I am going to dock Murphy's a few stars. Yeah, the fudge and ice cream are good (worthy of 4-5 stars), kids absolutely love this place, but order a "cherry phosphate", and you get stared at like a deer in headlights. I seem to remember the staff being a lot more knowledgable of the products the sell (well, knowledgable like a fast food employee knows what ketchup vs. mustard is) so things must have really gone down hill here. Well, if you are going to put "old fashioned phosphate" on your menu, maybe you should at least visit wikipedia and learn what the heck an old fashioned phosphate is. Its just flavored sugar syrup with a special acid phosphate solution...I understand thats hard to come by these days, so sometimes citric acid is used instead. Okay, fair enough. But, the high school kid pointed to a soda fountain with brand named soda syrups (root beer, cola, etc) that already have phosphoric acid in them. He then accurately explained to me about the tingling sensation one experiences with phosphate on the tongue, which i found a little ironic. I sarcastically responded "Uh, don't those already have phosphate in them?" Which he responded no, they add it afterwards. Apparently, Murphy's Candy & Ice Cream has access to a secret non-phophated supply of coca-cola syrups and re-adds the phosphate solution after the fact for unknown reasons. Perhaps for nostalgic purposes. I asked him to take his phosphate solution (or whatever it is) and put it into the cherry syrup, which was right in front of us. Nevermind the soda fountain. Of course, he was completely confused by this request, and pointed back to the soda fountain. Finally, he then asked if I wanted a cherry italian soda. Okay fine. I'll just cut my losses, make me a cherry italian soda (facepalm).

One of the worst. Ice-cream is sold by the ounce....in a cone.....so you don't know what one or two scoops is going to cost you until its made. Worse than that was the very unfriendly attitude of the server. Not a fun ice-cream time. We are here in our motorhome exploring the area. Will explore for another ice-cream spot.

  • Lindsey H.

If there was anyway to not give any stars I would. First the customer service is not present at all. Not a "hello", "how may I help you" or anything. In fact the employees acted like they didn't see us come in and don't get me started about how they were screwing around on their phones instead of running the cash register. Next the prices are ridiculously high for the tiny portions that were served on stale cones and being scooped with no gloves on? Disgusting!! Finally this place is disgusting in appearance. Boxes stacked where customers could get hurt and trash all over the floor. Completely unsanitary for a place that deals with food. . Next time I want ice cream I'll go to Peppermint Parlor!!

    (1)
  • Leanne P.

Super disappointed in this place. You would think that the only ice cream shop in Ocean Shores would have better ice cream. First I taste tested the birthday cake ice cream and it tasted like frost burned vanilla. Didn't get any "birthday cake" flavor at all. Then I settled on a chocolate ice cream with caramel swirl and cashews. Again, it tasted like it has been in the freezer for weeks. The ice cream didn't have that smooth creamy texture. It was decent, but tasted frost bitten. I think you are better off going to the grocery store, spending four dollars, and having better quality ice cream!

  • Sandie L.

I've been coming here for many years, but never really appreciated thier HOMEMADE icecream! YUMMMM-ME! I am weak-in-the-knees for the ole' favourite "rocky road", which is what I ordered on my recent trip. I savored my tastey treat. There is no skimping on ingredients here peeps!... very yummy. My friend Kristi had the chocolate, carmel and cashew scoop and it was just as tastey! =D Usually, this is my routine stop for salt water taffy, which they have many many many flavors and not too bad for 1lb = $4.75. Its always crowded here, with its flair of homemade ice cream, homemade smoothies and mocha shakes, homemade fudge and fun candy treats! Make it one of your stops when you are visiting the ocean!

  • Nancy O.

The ice cream we had was alright but the service was lacking. Seemed like the kids were working the counter on spring break and weren't too happy about. The flavors that we wanted were out because the kids had forgotten to get the refills out if the freezer. They were arguing on whose job it was to refill the ice cream. Awkward.

I always come here for the chocolate ice cream when I'm in Ocean Shores. Most of their ice cream is homemade and absolutely delicious. I haven't found a better chocolate ice cream anywhere else, even established brands like Haagen Dazs or Ben and Jerry's! I hope this place sticks around for years to come!

  • Mariam S.

Amazing ice cream! Loved their chocolate and Chai Latte

  • Meghan K.

I can sum this place up in one word: YUM! They had so many kinds if ice cream to choose from that I had a hard time making a decision. I decided on a scoop of Chocolate Rainforest (chocolate with caramel and cashews) and it did not disappoint! It was so good that I came back the next day and had it again, not gonna lie. In addition to ice cream, they also sell every flavor of salt water taffy imaginable (the Irish creme is my favorite out of the bunch), a wide assortment of fudge which I am dying to try, and other delicious looking candy. You must stop by here if you are in Ocean Shores. If you don't you're missing out!

    (5)
  • Sonya L.

This place is still as awesome as it was the last time I was in town. The Coconut Almond Joy ice cream is to die for. If you're in Ocean Shores, you MUST go here!

    (5)
  • Otto R.

A must stop every single time we are in Ocean Shores. Come here for some classic favorites, Ice cream, Fudge and Loads and Loads of Taffy. They also have a great selection of other candies. There is a reason this place is always busy, the fudge and ice cream are fresh and the quality really really good.!

    (5)
  • Adrienne H.

This place rocks! 48 flavors of salt water taffy (I think I bought all 48) and all the homemade icecream you can stomach!! They also have a fun selection of some nostalgic candy as well. Nothing like those 5 foot licorice ropes, mini Laffy Taffys, or Necco Wafers!

    (5)
  • Rowena T.

I heart Murphy's! We ended our day at Ocean Shores by stopping by this place and the line was LONG... There was literally like 6 employees that day and they were all busy. So many flavors, 2 people went before me cause i couldn't choose... Go with friends- get all different flavors! I am a chocoholic so I got the jamocha fudge and the chocolate swirl. (I think that's what it was called) It does melt fast though. Get it in a cup if you're a slow ice cream eater. Oh and the waffle cones *sigh... so gooood.. not too sweet and stale and you can see them make it themselves. Best homemade ice cream I have tasted so far and probably the only at this point lol. Where else do they sell homemade ice cream anyways???

    (5)
  • Christie R.

The ice cream might've been good if it weren't freezer-burned. I guess serves us right for getting cold ice cream on a cold, rainy day.

    (2)
  • Travis D.

Best ice cream ever! Better than anything you can buy in the store, better than Coldstone, and Baskin Robbins. We go everytime we are in Ocean Shores, you can definitely tell that the ice cream is homemade. I love being able to sample the flavors before I choose. They charge per ounce, not per scoop so you know get exactly what you pay for, they are always busy, but they seem to have enough staff on to handle the customer volume. Give this place a try!
